Ohio Supreme to Decide Residency Question
|
The debate over whether cities can tell its employees they must live within city limits will be settled by the Ohio Supreme Court. Appeals brought by Akron and Lima will be heard by the state's highest court. Most appeals court have ruled in favor of the state, which abolished residency requirements for most city workers through a law passed in 2006.
Canton Law Director Joe Martuccio says the city no longer has a residency requirement for most of its employees, but this case could affect it and dozens more Ohio communities based on its impact on the issue of home rule. |
