IRS e-mail scam hits home

Con artists are trying to pull a fast one on taxpayers. Stark County sheriff Tim Swanson says some area residents have received e-mails, claiming to be from the IRS and saying they're eligible for a refund.
Swanson says the Internal Revenue Service would not e-mail anyone about a refund, but would instead call taxpayers or send them a letter in the mail. The message in question directs recepients to a web site, where they're asked to enter personal information.
Anyone who receives such a message is asked to report it to police and the IRS. |
