Canton's Police Force Grows

The ranks of the Canton Police Department are getting larger. 11 new officers have been sworn in as members of the force. Chief Dean McKimm says most will go through the department's three-week orientation, before moving on to the field training officer program. That course will take three months to complete. The new officers who are not certified by the State of Ohio will immediately begin a three-month certification program at the University of Akron.
With the new additions, the Canton Police Department will total 179 officers. Mayor William Healy II has indicated an interest in hiring additional officers in the near future, as the budget allows. |
