Canton Police Officers Benefit from Memorial Fund
|
Seven new Canton police officers are getting help from a family who lost one of its own while in the line of duty. Retired Stark County Captain David Roshong is giving the rookie cops money from his son's memorial fund to help them buy uniforms and needed equipment.
Roshong says after Brian Roshong was killed during a gunfight with a suspect in July 1996, he and others established the fund to help other young officers. The younger Roshong was just 24 when he died, and had only been on the Canton police force a few months.
The fund was originally set aside to pay for bulletproof vests for new officers, but the federal government has since taken over that responsibility. |
