The Stark County Board of Elections says some bogus elections workers were trying to pull a fast one on potential voters. Director Jeanette Mullane says she's received complaints about people trying to register voters, asking people for their full Social Security numbers at the Strip in Jackson Township. The fake elections workers fled before Jackson Township police could track them down.
Elections employees only ask for the last four digits, and voters should only register at the Board's offices or other legitimate government locations. Sheriff Tim Swanson says his office and other law enforcement agencies in the county have been alerted to the scheme.
Anyone who experiences a similar incident is asked to contact their local police department.
